In this sea salt ice cream, salty and sweet come together in a luscious creamy base. Yeah, I admit to being poetic about this.

Rather than competing for attention, salt and sugar enhance each other. It’s just like one side rolling in and the other rolling out, over and over again. This is one of those flavors that will make you stop mid-sip and wonder how this tastes so good.

    sea salt ice cream

I tried salt ice cream for the first time when I was in Santa Fe with my sisters earlier this year. The moment the first bite hit my tongue, I knew I wanted to make sea salt ice cream to share with you.

We’re here to tell you that salt and ice cream aren’t a combination that suits everyone. I fell in love with it and so did my sister. my sister? She doesn’t want anything to do with salt in her desserts.

The salt in this ice cream is very subtle, very subtle. Mainly enhances sweetness and flavor. But if you look closely at the photo, you’ll see that I sprinkled generously with additional salt, and I’m now very happy to salt every scoop of my ice cream. It’s transformative.

    salt and ice cream

Salt and ice cream may sound like an odd combination. Understood. But let’s talk a little about salt. You see, I come from a long line of low-sodium cooks. My mother and grandmother each had their own reasons for being stingy with salt. Nevertheless, I grew up with very little first-hand experience of how salt actually works in cooking. So let’s make up for lost time!

In a nutshell, salt increases your ability to taste four of the five major taste categories: salty, sweet, sour, and umami. Additionally, salt actually reduces your ability to detect bitter tastes. That’s why adding just a pinch of salt to your coffee can significantly improve the taste of basic coffee.

This dynamic is one reason why recipes like salted caramel sauce are so popular. Yes, it is salty. And if you weren’t expecting it, it might be unpleasant. But that saltiness gives way to an incredibly enhanced experience across the rest of the flavors. yes. Use salt. that’s great.

The most common question I get is whether it is possible to make ice cream without a machine. The answer is yes. You can make ice cream without a machine. See complete instructions here.

    salted vanilla ice cream

I am thrilled with how this salt ice cream turned out. I have developed many ice cream flavors, but after some trial and error, salty ice cream has now become my favorite. So I’m happy to finally be able to add this to the long list of flavors I’ve published.

With over 160 ice cream recipes to choose from, there’s sure to be something for everyone. If you’re new to ice cream making, a great place to start is with vanilla ice cream, which is the easiest and best.

These are my favorite inexpensive containers for storing ice cream. Perfect for storing, reusing, and more as a gift (who doesn’t love homemade ice cream?). I write the flavor on the lid with a sharpie and wash it with dish soap.

I have more ice cream scoops than I can keep track of at the moment, and I’m definitely playing favorites. This ice cream scoop does the best job ever of cutting through hard ice cream and still delivers a sizeable scoop. It also gets bonus points because it’s one of the cheapest scoops I own.

Sea Salt Pecan Toffee is the answer to your snacking and sweet tooth dreams. end. Am I exaggerating? Sometimes, yes. But what about now? not much. People are more than a little obsessed with this toffee.

The Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookie is a giant bakery-style cookie with crisp edges and a perfectly chewy center, stuffed with chocolate chips and sprinkled with flaky sea salt. This is a cookie that you must try.

Rich, buttery homemade salted caramel is transformed into a perfect frosty in this irresistible salted caramel ice cream. And probably my favorite weird ice cream flavor is popcorn ice cream. Buttery, salty, and movie theater flavor packed into a creamy, smooth ice cream.

Pour 1 cup of heavy cream into a saucepan and add sugar. Warm the mixture over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.

Remove from heat and add remaining cream, milk, and vanilla. Whisk to combine, then add the salt and stir. Refrigerate until cool.

When ready to stir, whisk the mixture again and pour into the ice cream maker. Process according to manufacturer’s instructions.

Pour into ice cream machine and process according to machine instructions. When the ice cream is completed, it will look like soft serve ice cream. Transfer to a freezer-safe container and chill for several hours to create a firm ice cream.
